The radio station where I live did that once. The only thing that separated the songs was a short comercial break. This is an awesome like a possum song; one of my favorites of all time. And it does sound very much like Creedence Clearwater Revival, which is one of my favorite bands, so it's no wonder I like this song so much. Plus all of their 60s hits with Graham Nash. Thanks so much for posting the words to this song.
With careful listening, we knew it was incorrect, but we both thought it was cool. A cappella group Rockapella released a version on their 1995 album Primer. Their version often accompanied the map round on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego. "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" was the first song played by the band Phish. They also played the song at their 15th and 20th anniversary concerts.

Armed with a childhood spent devouring books, Mike Scott's heart was stolen by the punk rock scene of 1977. Not surprisingly, he would go on to become the most literate of rockers.
Delivery times may vary, especially during peak periods. There is no question that Credence influenced the guitar riffs and even some of the vocal style on this wonderful song. The correct lyrics are available at leoslyrics.com.
The Hollies – Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress) 1972 Epic Pop Rock VG
He said there is a mistake in the lyrics which was never rectified as the song was originally intended as a filler album track. The line 'jumping out of doors and TABLES' should have been 'jumping out of doors and WINDOWS'. As the lyrics are largely indistinct anyway, the producers thought another take was unnecessary. I never heard the CCR connection...I thought people were crazy to hear them..nothing like them...musically or vocally. I can see where people have trouble figuring out the words.
Clarke imitated John Fogerty's vocal style, which was based on the Creedence song "Green River". According to Clarke, the song was written "in about five minutes". I'm not saying that it's reasonable or unreasonable to think that the record is CCR. I knew that some people thought that it was CCR, but that is neither here nor there regarding whether it actually sounds like CCR or not. I thought that it would make for an interesting discussion and poll due to the record's association with CCR, despite a band with a pretty different musical history actually performing on it.
7" Single: The Hollies - Long Cool Woman & Hey Willy
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" (also titled "Long Cool Woman" or "Long Cool Woman ") is a song written by Allan Clarke, Roger Cook, and Roger Greenaway and performed by the British rock group The Hollies. Originally appearing on the album Distant Light, it was released as a single on 17 April 1972 , selling 2 million copies worldwide, including 1.5 million in the United States. It reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1972 for two weeks, behind Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again ". Billboard ranked it as the No. 24 song for 1972.
No matter, our hero winds up with a medal and the girl. Kinda reminds me of that fantastic movie, L.A. Confidential (even if that took place in the 1950's) where Russell Crowe's hardboiled cop character ends up with Kim Bassinger. Allan Clarke first recorded this song for his solo career. Me too, I love this song, so different than the other hits of the Hollies, there is a good beat on it.
Do you know what the player of it is doing now. The 1972 hit, one of the last for the Hollies, made it to No. 2 in the USA, but a major shake up in the group prevented it from regaining its 60’s place as one of the top British Invasion bands.
12 years ago I meet a beautiful women in a black dress she was so sexy and cool and thinking of this song I struck up a conversation. I am now 52 years old and it still is magic to me. I have a "Songs of the 70s" CD that has this song just before "Don't Fear the Reaper." Perhaps just a coincidence, but both have opening guitar riffs that are pretty similar. Thank you so much for posting these lyrics! All the history and explanation are wonderful too. Of course, I would never dare the argue with lyrics posted on the HOLLIES own website, but one of the last lines sounds a little different to me.
